Choice! ~ (Culturally Responsive Class Decor!)

 

   1. Culturally Responsive Colorful Sign Saying "Hello" in all Different Languages

                                                                              Rationale

This sign would serve as a form of welcome/greeting to both students and parenst from different racial an ethnic backgrounds that come into my classroom. This type of culturally responsive decor would serve as a sense of welcome to our families of their cultures, and language and even as a reminder that they are seen,  and acknowledged upon coming into my classroom. This type of sign also communicates that there is room for languages such as these within my classroom space. 

2. Culturally Responsive Books/Literatures 

                                                                        Rationale 

These texts would be present in my class bookshelves and would showcase all different cultures, identities and skin tones. I would make sure that these characters come from diverse backgrounds, life experiences that make them unique as the individual they are. Amongst these text and literatures I would also select texts that I know can relate/align or connect with the different aspects and facts of my students identities as well. These books would be diverse in grade levels as well and would be able to reach the different reading levels my students may come with. 

                                       3. Inclusive and Colorful Flexible Seating

This type of seating will be present within my classroom and will be geared towards and my students who have disabilities, shorter attention spans and trouble staying still in the classroom. This type of seating would be flexible for  students like these as well as other students, because it doesn't make a student feel subjected to one type of stance or seating but instead can serve as source of comfortability and the ability to have more movement during class activtiies without being confied to a desk.

 

                                 4.  Culturally Responsive Holiday Calendar

Rationale

This calendar would be in my classroom and extremely valuable and vital to my culturally responsive classroom environment, serving as a reminder of holidays and special days that are meaningful to my students EVERY single month. This calendar shows all holidays celebrated within a month throughout an  entire year that will help for me to realize when and which days to celebrate with my students from all different racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. A calendar like this leaves no students out!
